About the European Starling:
- Considered an invasive species in North America, the European Starling was introduced in 1890 by Eugene Schieffelin who was part of the American Acclimatization Society, a society whose mission was to introduce flora and fauna from the old world to create familiarity in the new world.
- Starlings are responsible for heavy damage to agricultural crops, grains used for production of livestock, and damage to buildings.
- European Starlings are excellent mimics. They can reproduce the sounds of other birds, as well as sounds like a phone ringing, a car alarm, or even a human voice.
