About the Red-shouldered Hawk:

  • The Red-shouldered Hawk has a rather odd range in the United States: It can be found throughout the Eastern US, but on along the coast of California. It can also be found in North East and Central Mexico.
  • Red-shouldered Hawks are very opportunistic feeders. They eat a variety of invertebrates, reptiles, amphibians, small mammals, and birds. If it's sized appropriate, they'll eat it.
  • A bird you won't really see in the falconry world, the Red-shouldered hawk has occasionally been used for the sport, with very limited success.
